โTriple Nexusโ has found its place as yet another captivating buzzword within the international aid community, governments, and academia. But what does it really mean on the ground? Upinion and partnerย ALEF act for human rightsย went straight to the source and engaged in conversations with nearly 500 individuals in Lebanon. Their voices shed light on ๐ฐ๐ก๐๐ญ ๐ ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐๐๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐๐๐ก ๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ ๐ฅ๐จ๐จ๐ค ๐ฅ๐ข๐ค๐ย in this dynamic patchwork of government institutions, local and international aid providers, and development actors.
The consensus is clear: integrating humanitarian, development, and peace building efforts is crucial rather than approaching these themes as if they exist separate from each other. However, there are ๐ค๐๐ฒ ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐๐๐ข๐๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ that must be prioritised for this approach to thrive: ๐๐๐๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง among (aid) actors and communities, ๐ข๐ง๐๐ซ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ณ๐๐ง ๐ข๐ง๐ฏ๐จ๐ฅ๐ฏ๐๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ and ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ซ ๐ ๐จ๐๐ฅ-๐ฌ๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ are essential. But it doesn’t stop there. The people of Lebanon are facing significant challenges, including corruption, sectarian strife, and mismanagement of resources. For Triple Nexus to succeed, Upinionโs community members emphasised it is imperative that it addresses ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ๐๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐๐ฌ ๐ก๐๐๐-๐จ๐ง before effectively tackling ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐ข๐ง๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐๐๐๐ข๐๐ข๐ญ๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฌ๐จ๐๐ข๐๐ฅ ๐ข๐ง๐๐ช๐ฎ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐๐ฌ.
As the Triple Nexus approach aims to build upon local perspectives, these insights are valuable and we need to keep on ๐ซ๐๐๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐จ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ฉ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ to determine what ๐ ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐๐๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐๐๐ก ๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ ๐ฅ๐จ๐จ๐ค ๐ฅ๐ข๐ค๐.
Let’s work together to develop a Triple Nexus approach that aligns with the community’s needs and aspirations, ensuring
